Woodstock is a traditional style 15’ wood/composite cruising dinghy. The hull is from a plywood Seafly class dinghy. The decking has been removed, and the freeboard has been raised, with increased sheer. The standard rig has been replaced with a traditional lugsail yawl rig. This rig allows for almost instant sail area reduction by lowering the main sail. The boat sails balanced with mizzen and jib only, or with mainsail only. Woodstock is very mild mannered and forgiving, and has never been capsized. Good width provides for ample carrying capacity (5 adults are fine). Ready to sail tomorrow, with no work required. Reason for sale: I need to fund the continued building of a new wooden boat.
Features/kit included:
• All spars are hollow 100% carbon tubes (ex-windsurfing), vinyl wrapped with wood effect vinyl, and varnished. These very light spars save swing weight high up, and makes erecting the masts very easy. The tanbark mainsail has 2 reef points, but I have never used them: a slight release of the mainsheet deals with most gusts, or the sails are shortened as described above. The spars have stood up to substantial winds over a couple of years of sailing now: I have complete confidence in them.
• Fast, planing style marine ply hull (the Seafly had a good Portsmouth handicap). As the hull had been repaired at some stage, the exterior of the hull has been laminated with glass/EPOXY (not the usual polyester resin). The result is light and extremely strong.
• Conventional swinging wood centreboard.
• Traditional bronze and brass fittings, and wooden blocks (pulleys). Traditional style ropes (modern polyesters etc. with traditional colouring eg. Hempex). 30m painter with large brass spring hooks.
• Boat is set up for simple single-handed sailing. All controls lead to the middle of the cockpit.
• Exterior finishes are Sikkens Cetol (two part) for the bright work, and International cream Marine Paint. Cetol results in an extremely durable satin finish, in line with the “working boat, not a show boat” aesthetic (i.e. a very un-stressful boat to own and operate in the real world). Any scratches or damage are very easily repaired by a light sanding, and a few coats to touch up.
• Continuous loop type jib furler.
• All components are set up for quick rigging and de-rigging. Brass and bronze clips, Inglefield clips, spring hooks etc.
• Weighted anchor, and rode.
• Road trailer and launch trolley combination in very good condition, with good 10” tyres. The system has been well sorted out for hassle free operation with minimum effort. The road base includes a winch to help pulling the launch trolley onto the trailer. There are no bangs and rattles: she tows silently.
• Flotation airbags all around perimeter of boat, all covered with brown fabric bags.
• 6 fenders, all also in brown fabric covers.
• 3HP Haswing Pulsar electric motor with integrated lithium battery + charger. More than enough power for this weight of boat: I never use full power.
• Hand-turned oak belay pins and fender pegs.
• A ratchet strap holds the boat down onto the road trailer, with a timber cross beam to prevent crushing the boat. The bow of the boat is further secured to the trailer with the winch, and a safety pin at the front of the trolley.
• Tiller calming system, with adjustable tension. Tiller can be locked in place, or completely free, or anything in-between. An important safety feature in my opinion.
• Spars all fit inside boat for transport (mast is two-piece).
• Uphaul and downhaul lines for swinging rudder. These are cleated in a Camcleat 257 auto release tiller cleat.
• A pair of 9’ oars, varnished and with tips protected with glass/epoxy. Bronze oarlocks.
• VHF radio.
• Wood traveller / horse that prevents the main sheet tangling with the tiller.
• Light board is not included.
* A (modified) outside cover.
