This Dutch Barge (Replica) was built by the renowned Boat Builder, Pickwell & Arnold of Todmorden. Babalou was completed to our own specification in 2005. She was then sailed to James Mayor Co Ltd Boatyard, Tarleton, PR4 6HD. where she was fitted out by the current owners to a high specification.
Babalou has been fitted out to a high standard, the entire internal structure below the Gunwale was painted with Bitumin prior to Lloyds of London approved Rockwool, was applied throughout, before Visqueen & Final Panels fitted.
Note: Some Furniture will be included , together with a full set of Hatch (3) Double Glazed Windows, together with the usual variety of Engine Fuel Filters etc.
Solid Oak has been used throughout for Door Frames, Escape Hatches (Windows) and Trim. All Escape Hatches are made of solid Oak Double & Glazed windows. There are a spare set of Double Glazed units included.
Portholes are Solid Brass with Brass Spun Liners. The Fwd Cabin has an en-suite, comprising stand alone Slipper Bath with Overhead Shower, Sink & Leesan Electric toilet. .
Heating is via a Morso Squirrel Stove with exposed Polished Copper Pipes that enter the Storage Cupboard, en-suite, round Saloon & Galley to the Water Tank
The aft Cabin has 2 Oak Bunks along with a Sea Toilet. Also housed in the aft Cabin is the Laundry Washing Machine.
Access to the Engine Room is via both the Wheelhouse Floor or alternatively from Aft Sea toilet bulkhead.
The Galley comprises of a Gas 2 Hob Burner, Neff Electric Oven, together with a separate Microwave. Loads of Storage.
She has 2 Large capacity water tanks, one in the Bow, the other Mid Ships.
Manual Winch & 60 Lb Anchor & Chain and Rope Warp.
Babalou handles well both on the Canal & Coastal passages. We have sailed her around the Coast from Tarleton to Liverpool. Access to the Weed Hatch is beneath the Shelf in the Aft Cabin.
